On Nov 14-15, 2024, Macromolecular Science and Engineering organized the 46th Annual Macro Symposium in the NCRC Dining Hall, Ann Arbor. A total of 59 posters, 7 student oral presentations, and 4 keynote speeches were delivered during the symposium. The Macro program was proud to host an excellent line up of keynote speakers: Xinyue Liu (Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, MSU), Anne McNeil (Professor, Chemistry and Macro, UM-Ann Arbor), Wei Zhang (Professor, UC Boulder) and Marc Hillmyer (Professor, UMN-Twin Cities). We hosted 21 undergraduate students from all over the US through generous support from the Rackham Recruitment Grant.
On November 14, the symposium started with a welcome speech and an LCA/TEA workshop led by the symposium committee chair, Dr. Abdon Pena-Francesch. The day also featured four professional development workshops and a career panel. The Macro program would like to thank all the workshop speakers: Josh Botkin (Lecturer of Entrepreneurship Studies, Ross School of Business), Alicia Comer (Science Outreach Grants Manager, UM Museum of Natural History), Justin Joque (Visualization Librarian, UM Libraries), Michelle Campbell (Program Director of Culture, Grants and Advancement at UM), Zhanar Tuleutayeva (Program Manager of Culture, Grants and Advancement at UM). We also would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the career panelists: Saadet Albayrak-Guralp (Lecturer, ChemE), Leanna Foster (Research Investigator, DuPont), Albert Liu (Assistant Professor, ChemE and Macro) and Julie Rieland (Postdoc, NIST).
Following all the captivating keynote speeches and oral and poster presentations, the award ceremony took place, recognizing outstanding achievements within our student community. We proudly announce the following award winners:
