Professor Ellen Arruda has been selected as the Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and will begin the position effective September 1, 2018. The lab of Professor Anish Tuteja has recently published a paper in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces documenting the development of a clear, durable, omniphobic coating. The coating, made from a mixture of fluorinated polyurethane and F-POSS, can be sprayed, brushed, dipped, or spin-coated onto a wide range of surfaces. Read More
The ACS POLY/PMSE Student Chapter, Macro’s student group, was selected as the 2018 winner of the Elaine Harden Student Organization Award from the College of Engineering. The award is presented to the CoE student organization “that best exemplifies dedicated leadership and service to the community”.
Macro Director Mark Banaszak Holl has accepted a position as Head of Department and Professor of Chemical Engineering at Monash University in Australia. He will begin this new role in January 2018; Macro wishes him all the best in this new role and thanks him for many wonderful years of service to the Macro program!
Dr. Sarah Calve, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering, was selected as a recipient of the 2017 NIH Director’s New Innovator Award. She is the first Purdue faculty member to be selected for this honor. As a Macro student Professor Calve worked with Professor Ellen Arruda. Read More
In partnership with the Center for Educational Outreach (CEO), Macro students Rose Cersonsky, Ayse Muniz, and Alyssa Travitz organized a one day workshop for teachers to learn about research at Michigan and activities they can bring back to their classrooms. Read More
The ACS Poly/PMSE chapter’s outreach initiative, led by Macro students, published a paper in a special edition of the Journal of Chemical Education. The paper, “Augmenting Primary and Secondary Education with Polymer Science and Engineering” details the development of outreach efforts, program methodology, impact and future plans.
